CARMEL HILLIER | INTEGRATIVE COUNSELLOR

How people manage their lives has always interested and fascinated me. Having settled in London, from Ireland in 1990, I developed a keen interest in how individuals from different cultures cope with the stresses and strains of their lives. Hence, I trained and worked with various stress management tools and techniques (massage, healing, mindfulness, guided meditation, to mention a few) in 2004. Consequently, I discovered, that our mind/brain and body are inter-connected and very much affect each other. For example, depression and anxiety can have many contributory factors and manifest physically and / or psychologically. This led me to further training and I currently hold a BA (Hons) in Counselling (2:1), validated by Roehampton University.

My training and approach to counselling clients is integrative, which basically means that I use whatever works best for you, as a unique individual. In very broad terms, this encompasses CBT, Psychodynamic and Person-Centred methodologies, with influences from many other approaches. I can also include your spirituality/religion, if requested.

Where possible, I aim to collaboratively agree your goals for counselling with periodic reviews. The process of counselling is to help you find better ways to cope with your life situation and empower you to make better choices. I am a registered member of the BACP and ACC, fully insured (CTHA) and currently work in a variety of settings and locations.
